The team of the Comité ZIP Sud-de-l'Estuaire, in collaboration with the municipality of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, carried out a characterization of the hydro-sedimentary unit of the area des Grèves. The main objective is to determine a potential site for restoring fish habitat as part of a project funded by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Biological and geomorphological characterization was carried out in the summer of 2018.
The characterization of the territory made it possible to obtain a global and current portrait of the study area. The areas of the saltwater marsh and the eelgrass bed have been mapped. Despite degradation in specific sectors, these seem to be in good health. Inventories of flora and fauna have given an idea of the species present in this sector. To limit the phenomenon of erosion and improve the resilience of the environment, a transplant project in the marsh, a sedimentary recharge, and a planting of native species adapted to the conditions are planned for the summer of 2019.
