IRHMAS is a non-profit research organization whose objective is to further knowledge in maritime history and underwater archeology through its team of specialized archeologists.
Created in 2016, the IRHMAS's mission is to document, locate, evaluate, identify, study, protect and promote the maritime and underwater archeological heritage of Quebec and Canada.
In addition to researching specific topics, such as shipwrecks, ancient wharves, the evolution of the maritime cultural landscape, etc., the Institute offers professional expertise to meet environmental management needs related to the modification of navigable areas and aquatic or submerged zones. IRHMAS therefore offers its knowledge and support to government stakeholders and other public and private officials.
The dissemination of knowledge to the diving community and the general public is also a core concern of IRHMAS, which participates in the promotion of heritage through conferences, workshops and training.
