This large-scale project, carried out by Attention FragÎles, aimed to protect and develop the Magdalen Islands’ natural coastal areas by upgrading and improving public recreational infrastructure. Work was done on 16 sites throughout the archipelago, all giving access to the coast or inland bodies of water. The project focused on various types of infrastructure: landscaping to provide public access to the beach (bridges, stairs, marked trails, and parking spaces); boat launches for small vessels that let the public access inland bodies of water (bays and lagoons); hybrid bicycle and pedestrian trails that encourage people to access and explore coastal environments.
The project was done in collaboration with the Comité ZIP des Îles-de-la-Madeleine, the Société de conservation des Îles-de-la-Madeleine and the Municipality of the Magdalen Islands. It has received financial support from Economic Development Canada, the Hydro-Québec Foundation for the Environment, the Caisses populaires Desjardins des Îles, and the Communauté maritime des Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
