This Directory, produced thanks to the participation of thirty partners, contains information about public access from 46 sources previously published between 1989 and 2009. It covers the entire St. Lawrence River, from Cornwall to Blanc-Sablon, including the Magdalen Islands, Anticosti Island, and 11 priority tributaries of the 2005-2010 St. Lawrence Plan. These official data were produced as part of the St. Lawrence Action Plan 2011-2026.
Access sites are located on or near the shore. The Comités ZIP and Stratégies Saint-Laurent have partly verified data in 2010 and 2011. To make more data available, a second validation process using satellite images was made under the leadership of Public Works and Government Services Canada in three areas: the Richelieu River, the lake St. Louis and the metropolitan area of Quebec (from Cap-Rouge to Sainte-Pétronille and from Saint-Nicolas to Beaumont). SLGO then continued the validation process using Google map and Street View for all the access points on the south shore of the St. Lawrence from Île d'Orléans to Gaspé and on the north shore from Baie-Sainte-Catherine to Mingan. These last two validations result in the integration of 401 new access points throughout the territory of St. Lawrence and Richelieu Rivers.
