A vast environmental planning and consultation process on the territory of the Magdalen Islands was carried out between 2010 and 2012 by Attention FragÎles in collaboration with members of the 'Groupe de référence en environnement' (GRE). Thirty-five economic, social, cultural, and environmental organizations participated. Out of this work came the Strategic environmental intervention plan for the Magdalen Islands territory (PSIE in French), which aim to allow local and regional stakeholders to base their policies and actions on a coherent and shared strategic vision for the Magdalen Islands, as well as to provide a guideline for action on the territory.
The plan includes a detailed environmental profile of the territory, an overview of environmental actions that have been carried out, an assessment that prioritizes the most critical territorial risks and challenges, ten general directions, and a series of options and strategic interventions to address the identified challenges. The final version of the PSIE was completed in 2012, and an online platform was created. A summary was produced in 2014 to help local collaborators take ownership of the plan. The PSIE was also used as grounds for tabling an environmental policy by the Communauté Maritime des Îles-de-la-Madeleine in 2016.
