Experimental Restoration of an Eelgrass Bed in the Baie de Mitis (2013-2015)

This project consists of experimenting with the transplantation of eelgrass plants from a healthy natural herbarium (Rimouski Bay) to a degraded herbarium in Mitis Bay. The aim is to initiate a complete restoration of the eelgrass bed in future years. Since the 90s, this herbarium has been in sharp decline. Before the restoration, the environment was characterized to obtain a portrait of ecological diversity, physico-chemical water conditions, geomorphology, and human and natural disturbances.

This project made it possible to study, deepen and experiment with eelgrass transplantation techniques, but also made it possible to carry out experimental cultivation of eelgrass in continuous flow basins.
