This project, which is a Fisheries and Oceans Canada initiative for the Gaspésie/Bas Saint-Laurent sector, aims to develop a community shellfish management model with the aim of conserving and managing the resource, maintaining orderly fishing between users, and developing a new approach that takes into account community expectations.
Convinced of the benefits of implementing shellfish management measures, DFO wishes to develop a community management model in consultation with local stakeholders. In the fall of 2003, an agreement between the Comité ZIP Baie des Chaleurs and Fisheries and Oceans Canada made it possible to carry out a project to develop a Quebec model for community shellfish management.
