Scientists from Fisheries and Oceans Canada from the four Atlantic regions, including the Maurice Lamontagne Institute (MLI) for the Quebec Region, have developed the Atlantic Zone Monitoring Program (AZMP). This program is designed to detect, track and predict changes in the state and productivity of the marine environment. This information is essential to tackle major issues such as the impact of climate change. It also supports the ecosystem approach to ensure the sound management of the St. Lawrence ecosystem, conserving resources and protecting the marine environment for future generations. The AZMP builds temporal data sets that will be needed to address future problems.
